Urge Your Member of Congress to Vote “Yes” on H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act

The House of Representatives may vote on H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, during the week of September 19. The legislation, introduced by Reps. Rodney Davis (R-IL) and Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) would repeal the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). The WEP reduces Social Security benefits for individuals entitled to certain public pension plans, such as the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). The GPO reduces or can eliminate the Social Security survivor benefits for public service retirees, including CSRS annuitants. H.R. 82 presently has 296 cosponsors and will need 290 votes to pass, since H.R. 82 will likely be considered under a special voting procedure called “suspension of the rules.”  This accelerated procedure requires a 2/3 majority for a bill to pass.

Please urge your Representative to vote “YES” when H.R. 82 is considered for a vote.
